Automation platforms promise to connect everything in a few clicks, and they often deliver. But the right choice depends on the process, not on the tool’s popularity. Here is how we decide with our clients.
Zapier, the fastest way to start
Zapier has the largest catalogue of connectors and the gentlest learning curve. It is ideal for simple, low-volume flows owned by business teams. Costs rise quickly with volume, and complex logic becomes hard to maintain.
Make, more control while staying visual
Make handles branches, loops and data transformation better than Zapier, at a lower cost per operation. It suits processes of medium complexity, such as order handling or reporting, as long as someone owns and documents the scenarios.
n8n, power and control over your data
n8n is open source and can run on your own servers, which matters when data must stay in Tunisia or in Europe. It handles complex workflows and custom code steps, and costs far less at high volume. In exchange, it needs a little more technical care.
Custom code, for critical and high-volume flows
When a flow is central to your business, processes thousands of events a day or needs strict testing, code is often the safer choice. It costs more to build, but it is versioned, tested and monitored like the rest of your software.
A simple rule of thumb
- 01Prototype on a platform to prove the value quickly
- 02Keep simple, low-risk flows on that platform
- 03Move critical or high-volume flows to self-hosted n8n or to code
- 04Monitor everything, whatever the tool
